Back in 1995, I quit my job and joined AmeriCorps

A lot has changed since then—here’s what hasn’t.

Back in 1995, I quit my job and joined AmeriCorps at the Hill House in Pittsburgh’s legendary Hill District. There, I taught GED classes to young mothers + fathers and set up the very first computer labs in the neighborhood.

I had just begun my personal and professional commitment to work against our nation’s raging racial + economic inequality, and had the amazing fortune of serving 2 years there.

Back then, Windows 95 was cutting-edge technology. Safe to say, a lot has changed in the last 25+ years.

Our nation’s political policies and priorities certainly have changed, but mine haven’t.

I’m proud to run for Senate on a quarter century record of championing these core principles, policies, places, and people.
